Tour Overview

Day 1: Fes - Ifran - Azrou - Midelt

Departure to Midelt passing through the Middle Atlas Mountains and the berber village of Immouzer Kandar and Ifrane, a wonderful mountains village, referred to as “the Switzerland of Morocco” and then on to Midelt. During this journey you’ll experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains. Stopping at Azrou, a Berber village in the middle of the famous cedar forest – the largest in Morocco – where you may well sight Barbary apes. After sometime within the forest, your journey continues to Midelt along the magnificent hills and mountains of the Atlas. In Midelt you will be accommodated in a luxurious hotel. Dinner, bed and breakfast.

Day 2: Midelt - Errachidia - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga

After breakfast in your hotel you will travel to Merzouga via Errachidia and Erfoud. You will be travelling through the fascinating Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorge, taking in views of the High Atlas plateau, you’ll notice how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city of Errachidia. Afterwards, you will travel along the luxuriant Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way to Erfoud and Rissani. Arrive at Merzouga guided by an experienced camel man to explore within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. On your way, pause to watch the sunset then continue your ride – seemingly in the middle of nowhere! Dinner and overnightwill be under the stars, or if you prefer, in a traditional Berber nomad tent.

Day 3: Merzouga - Er Rissani - Merzouga

Your camel man will wake you up early in the morning to watch what will might be the best sunrise of your life. After that you will have a peaceful camel-trek back to the village of Merzouga to have your breakfast. Enroute you will be dazzled by the everchanging hues of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes, which are a scene of constant change and fascination as sunlight transforms them from pink to gold to red. After breakfast, we will depart to the holy city of Er Rissani, a site where the Alouite dynasty are buried in the mousoleum of Moulay Ali Sherif, visit the ruins of Ksar Abbar, a kasbah that dates from 17 th century. Rissani is surrounded by 360 ksars (fortified villages with many towers) and has a big souk (an open market), held three times a week. After we will have a tour of Rissani’s famed palmerie and a glimpse of life as it is lived on the edge of the desert. Visit the ksar Oulad Abdelhalim, which was built around 1900 for Sultan Moulay Hassan. Then continuing the trip throught the open black desert back to Merzouga. Overnight accommodation will be in Merzouga in riad or hotel.

Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Tinghir - Boumanle Dades - Ouarzazate

After breakfast you’ll leave for Rissani, Tinghir, and Boumalne Dades; the line of kasbahs that give this extremely popular route its nickname: Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. Begin just before the town of Skoura, which is Kalaa Mgouna, the rose city where you cauld purchase rose water and continue to Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, whose geography and beautiful landscapes have attracted many world class movie producers. Possible visit (if there is no production event) to the movie studio, a well-known cimatographic center used for blockbuster productions including "Astrix and Cleopatra" directed by Alain Chabat and the Oscar-wining "Gladiator" directed by Ridley Scott. Overnight stay will be at the riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Ouarzazate - Marrakesh

After breakfast we will depart early for Marrakesh. Today we will visit the famous Ait ben Haddou Kasbah, one of the most intriguing red earth castles lining the ancient Route of the Kasbahs, our trip will continue through the dramatic landscape of the High Atlas Mountains passing throught the Berber town of Taddart, and over than 2260m high Tizi-in-Tichka pass, where we will stop for lunch before we continue to Marrakesh where tour ends.
